The woman died in June 2020 when she was 89 years old, probably of natural causes. The officers went to the man's home in Innsbruck last weekend after suspicions arose about the elderly woman's death.
According to police, the 66-year-old admitted during questioning that he had kept her body in the basement after her death at home so he could continue to receive the money. Authorities conducted an autopsy on the woman's body on Wednesday and found no evidence of murder.
