A Carabinieri marshal drowned in the sea Palinuro, in Cilento, during a dive.
The tragedy occurred near the “Blue Grotto”, one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Cilento coast. According to an initial reconstruction of the facts, the victim, Ugo Scotti, commanded at a Carabinieri station in Cori in the province of Latina, he dived together with a friend just after 16 pm. For reasons that are still unclear, only the friend resurfaced and immediately raised the alarm.
The search was launched and the lifeless body of the Carabinieri Marshal was recovered by the men of the local Coast Guard. The body of Ugo Scotti was then transferred to the morgue of the hospital in Vallo della Lucania, while the Vallo della Lucania Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation to clarify the dynamics of the tragedy.
The news of Marshal Scotti's death has caused great grief to his family, relatives and friends. The mayor of Cori, Mario Lucarelli he posted a photo together with the marshal: “A great loss and a huge disappointment for the death of our commander of the Cori station, Marshal Ugo Scotti. Palinuro – A peaceful afternoon excursion turned into an emergency on the picturesque coast of Palinuro. A tourist was injured yesterday evening, Wednesday, November 12th, requiring a complex rescue operation by the Coast Guard. The accident occurred in a remote area near the renowned Spiaggia della…
Palinuro – A serious and disconcerting episode shakes the 118 headquarters in the heart of the CilentoA video, released by the association "Nessuno tocchi Ippocrate" and reposted by MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, captures a man—identified as a doctor—lighting a firecracker and throwing it inside the facility, a few steps away from a rescue worker lying on a sofa.
The act, already reckless in itself, takes on even more disturbing overtones when considering the context: rooms where oxygen tanks, medications, and highly flammable materials are stored. In the same images, the video's protagonist also appears smoking inside the station, further exacerbating the risks.
A tense August 15th at the Blue Grotto CapriAn argument between two boatmen from the cooperative that manages access to the site escalated into a brawl before the incredulous eyes of tourists: insults, shoving, and slapping followed, leading to one of the combatants falling into the sea. The scene, filmed and shared on social media, went viral within hours, shining a spotlight on a problem that appears far from isolated. This isn't the first time it's happened. Just a few days ago, another video—reported by MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli—showed a similar altercation in the same location. These two incidents, occurring in close proximity, raise questions about the organizational stability and international image of one of the island's most famous landmarks. "When we reported the critical issues," explains Borrelli, "we were accused of exaggerating the issue. But the reality is clear: interminable waits, tourists being passed over for undeclared payments, and questionable management of a service that should be a flagship. Today, I expect an apology and immediate action." The cooperative's president has announced his intention to take action, but the main issue remains: the management of a world-class heritage entrusted to internal dynamics that risk compromising its credibility and safety. Tourism in Capri also depends on its image. And the Blue Grotto, the island's symbol, cannot become the scene of brawls between industry professionals. After yet another incident, pressure is mounting for institutions and managers to find concrete solutions that can guarantee order, transparency, and a welcome worthy of the location's prestige.
