Tokyo Paralympics, the Neapolitan Assunta Legnante è silver medal in the women's F12 shot put.
The Italian thrower, holder of both the world and Paralympic records for her classification, finished just 16 centimetres behind her Uzbek rival Safiya Burkhanova (14.78 to 14.62).
“What difficulties did I encounter on the platform? The cold, the rain, but those were there for everyone. I'm sorry, but maybe I'm asking too much”. Assunta Legnante, silver medalist in the women's F12 shot put, said this while speaking in the mixed zone of theOlympic Stadium.
Legnante was very moved at the end of the race: “It's a shame about the third invalid throw, but what I reproach myself for is that you can't do 14.25 standing still and 14.62 moving,” he concluded.
“Dear Assunta, we saw you fight and then cry for the most precious medal that just missed out. We will always be proud of you, of the extraordinary athlete that you are, regardless of the medals, always”. Thus on Twitter the president of the Italian Paralympic Committee, Luca Pancalli, sends a message to the athlete Assunta Legnante, silver in the shot put.
