Wednesday 8 September at 20.00 pm at the Sala Assoli, Napoli, the Neapolitan Chapel Association presents Pino De Vittorio in the concert The Tarantellas of Remorse, accompanied by Marcello Vitale.
Regular guest at the Festivals and Reviews directed by Antonio Florio, to whom he has been linked by years of artistic partnership, Pino de Vittorio is one of the greatest scholars of the popular music repertoire, to whose research and valorization he has contributed in a significant way.
A concert in which tarantellas, serenades, love and work songs from the South will be performed in all their ancient purity with his very particular qualities as an interpreter, singular for the color and range of his voice.
Exactly thirty years after his first musical journeys into the memory of his native Puglia and the roots of his Mediterranean culture, Pino De Vittorio returns to that repertoire of tarantellas from Gargano and songs from Southern Italy that immediately made him known and appreciated for his very particular talents.
Pino De Vittorio, during his brilliant career, has repeatedly re-proposed and recorded these songs from the origins. But this time he reserves us an astonishing surprise. A feeling of absolute novelty pervades the listener who knows that repertoire and perhaps even those who approach it for the first time.
The novelty lies in the purity of the performance, in the extraordinary cleanliness with which we are offered not only the Levantine sounds and the hypnotic rhythms of the Apulian land, but also in the purity with which the beautiful texts full of simple but poignant poetry are punctuated: songs of pilgrims to the monastery of San Michele, songs of olive beaters, incitements of carters, serenades of lovers, therapeutic music for the bite of the tarantula, magical nursery rhymes, songs of spite, of love and of death.
