In addition to a 12-kilometer cycle/pedestrian path, the former railway spaces will be recovered and transformed into equipped green areas.

Work began yesterday morning, Monday 27 September, on the Torre Annunziata stretch for the construction of the cycle/pedestrian path “from Vesuvius to the Sea”, which will cross the territory between the city of Oplonti and San Giuseppe Vesuviano, passing through Boscoreale and Terzigno.

The project, financed with funds from the Campania Region, involves the redevelopment of the section of the Cancello-Torre Annunziata railway network, which has been decommissioned since December 2005.

In addition to the construction of a twelve-kilometer cycle path, the former railway spaces will be recovered and transformed into equipped green areas.

“This is an important work from several points of view. – says the Councilor for Public Works, Francesco Longobardi -. The construction of the infrastructure will contribute to urban redevelopment, considering that the entire area, abandoned for almost 16 years, will be accessible to citizens. A public work that will also serve to relaunch and connect the Vesuvian archaeological sites, and that will allow visitors to reach them much more easily. The green impact is also important: the cycle/pedestrian path, in fact, will contribute to significantly reducing the use of cars and CO2 emissions.
The completion of the works on the section relating to Torre Annunziata is expected for the end of next December".
