Swill soon be exhibited inside the museum of Ancient arsenals of the Republic of Amalfi the one hundred and ten archaeological finds discovered on the seabed of the Amalfi Coast.
Mostly amphorae, some from the Roman era, returned by the sea between the bays of Marmorata in Conca dei Marini. This was announced by the mayor of Amalfi Daniele Milano, during the presentation of the exclusive register of Diabolik "Coup in Amalfi“, which aims to raise awareness of respect for cultural heritage and is set in the ancient maritime republic.
This is one of the last drawings, in limited edition, by the master Enzo Facciolo, historic illustrator of Diabolik since 1963, who passed away at almost ninety years old last August 13th. Just while he was still busy illustrating the tables of a new episode.
The collection of antiquities is very heterogeneous, with Roman, Greek-Italic, early Roman imperial, Norman, and medieval amphorae. Two finds, remains of amphorae and an anchor, which in the next few days will be subjected to “on sight” restoration. Anyone, enthusiasts and the curious, will be able to witness the recovery activities inside the arsenals.
"We are in a magical place for all Amalfitans, the only living trace of the ancient maritime tradition of Amalfi – explained the mayor Daniele Milan - today our history becomes Roman, at the bottom of the sea. This history tells us something, they tell us about a past of trade. The Municipality of Amalfi has invested resources to restore these goods that were found at the bottom of the sea.”
