Salerno. The military personnel of the Acerno Forestry Carabinieri Station, as part of their activity of territorial control and prevention of environmental crimes, noticed, in the locality of “Serra Polare – Acellica” in the countryside of the municipality of Acerno, in the heart of the Monti Picentini Regional Park, the execution of a forest felling with the uprooting of stumps.

The patrol carried out a more in-depth inspection of the area in question, often the subject of environmental crimes, and the check revealed that the works had been carried out on private property, which extended for about a hectare and a half, and had affected pine stumps and broom bushes, without any authorization.

Since the area concerned falls within the “Monti Picentini” Regional Park and is subject to hydrogeological restrictions pursuant to RD 3267/1923, and is also a Special Protection Area, the military personnel operating immediately blocked the works and seized the entire surface.

The owner was reported to the AG pursuant to art. 181 of Legislative Decree 42/2004 for work carried out in an area subject to landscape restrictions and art. 734 CP for defacement of natural beauty. He was also given an administrative fine of €4.500 for violation of arts. 23 and 25 of Regional Law no. 11/1996.

Thanks to the immediate and timely intervention of the military, it was possible to avoid that the continuation of the works could irreparably compromise the mountain fabric already strongly destabilized by neglect and exploitation of the topsoil.
