A conference of services called by the mayor of Scafati at the Town Hall on the problem of flooding. The opposition learns it from the press
Cirstoforo Salvati, together with his councilor Vitiello with responsibility for Public Works, asked the representatives of the Campania Region, the Campania Water Authority, Gori SpA, the Civil Engineering Department of Salerno and the Consortium for Integral Land Reclamation – Sarno District, to intervene urgently.
The press release “Insieme per Scafati” was not long in arriving, declaring that it had learned from the press about the conference of services organized by the Mayor.
Here is the note from city councilors Russo, Ambrunzo, Carotenuto and Grimaldi:
“We learn from the press that the Municipal Administration has organized a conference of services with other bodies, requesting urgent and decisive interventions regarding the problem of flooding, pending the construction of the sewer network.
Beyond the good intentions, it is unfortunately evident that the process is continuing in a disorderly manner, without having a clear real planning of interventions on the territory.
Our Municipal Administration, as has already happened in the past, has not carried forward, keeping them completely at a standstill, the variant procedures for the expropriation of the land necessary to build the tanks on Via Luigi Cavallaro and Via Pertini (Plaza area), serving the sewerage network under construction.
Indeed, it even said it was in favor – as can be seen from the notes exchanged with the Campania Region – of eliminating the tanks themselves: without however having evaluated the technical alternative and the consequences on the functioning of the sewerage system.
In short, the risk is that we will find ourselves with a sewer system that is nearing completion but with rainwater that should have ended up in the tanks and instead will continue to end up who knows where.
We wonder why and on what technical bases, on the basis of what evaluations, the Administration on the one hand declares itself in favor of modifying the sewerage network project in a fundamental part, and then on the other hand demands urgent and definitive solutions. Just as other variations made to the sewerage network project, with the more or less explicit consent of the Administration, raise doubts.
On the other hand, the flooding problem concerns the entire city, and not just via Passanti and via Battisti, as erroneously reported by the relevant Councilor: from via Oberdan to via Roma, from via Terze to Corso Trieste, up to the Cappelle neighborhood, the entire city suffers the inconvenience of an inconceivable problem in 2021.
The story of via Nuova San Marzano is completely paradoxical, the flooding of which the Mayor also refers to. Flooding without rain and with people trapped in their homes, on one side and on the other, with the Mayor majority in the lead approving industrial expansion projects in areas clearly lacking urbanization works and in particular an adequate sewer system.
We cannot move forward through commercials, improvisations, chasing emergencies.
We need to think seriously and logically about these issues, also seriously pressing the Campania Region, putting together the former Great Sarno Project and the sewerage network project of Scafati and other neighboring municipalities: without forgetting, for example, to understand what needs to be done with the Bottaro canal, first dredged and now abandoned to itself.
We hope that the Mayor will report to the next City Council on what his real intentions are, and discuss the concrete actions to be implemented with respect to a dramatic problem in our community.”
