“Lucky boss of bosses, be careful,” “I’ll burn you,” “Bastards,” “Death.” These are some of the writings that appeared yesterday evening in Policastro, the largest and most populous village in the municipality of Santa Marina, in the province of Salerno.
The graffiti was painted with red paint on walls, farm machinery and on the door of a truck. The mayor of the Cilento town, Giovanni Fortunato, reported their presence in a post on Facebook.
The outgoing mayor is also a candidate for re-election in the elections to be held on October 3 and 4.
"I express my solidarity with the mayor of Santa Marina Giovanni Fortunato for the serious death threats he has been the victim of in the last few hours. In this regard, I will present an urgent parliamentary question to the Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgerse and I hope that the Prefect and the Police Chief of Salerno will pay maximum attention to the matter, to protect the safety of the mayor and his family and to guarantee legality in view of the upcoming administrative elections".
