Attempted assault on a truck on the Naples Canosa: the truck was empty

The truck that escaped an attack this morning at dawn on the A16 Naples-Canosa in the Foggia area, between Candela and Cerignola Ovest, was empty.

The driver, a 54-year-old Neapolitan, was on his way to load shoes at a shoe factory in Lecce. Having escaped the attempted robbery thanks to his own reaction, the truck driver raised the alarm and found a patrol of the Carabinieri waiting for him at the motorway exit, at the Cerignola Ovest toll booth.

As far as we know, the robbers who pulled up alongside him in the BMW pointed a sort of flashing light at him, another ploy to try to force him to stop along with the two vehicles set on fire in the middle of the roadway: a van stolen from Andria and a car stolen from Canosa. This is not the first highway assault with similar techniques in the Cerignola area, where the A16 and A14 intersect.

Last year alone, between July and August, three attacks were carried out, all against armoured vehicles, all unsuccessful: on 24 July and 10 August along the A14 and on 24 August on the A16.
