A tremor that spread for over 320 kilometers to the capital of Mexico City was recorded yesterday evening at 20.47:1.47 local time (XNUMX:XNUMX in Italy) also causing buildings to sway. Fortunately, there is not much damage, according to local sources.

The U.S. Geological Survey says Tuesday night's earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 7, with its epicenter 17 kilometers (XNUMX miles) northeast of Acapulco. Acapulco's mayor said there were no serious problems in the city, although there were reports of gas leaks and fallen walls. In Mexico City, the ground shook for nearly a minute in parts of the capital, but the quake was less noticeable than in other parts. Some people were evacuated, but they quickly returned to their homes on a rainy night.

The earthquake, according to the United States Geophysical Institute (USGS), was registered four km east of Los Organos de San Agustin (southeast), in the state of Guerrero, near Acapulco. The hypocenter was located at a depth of 12,6 km.

The governor of the southern state of Guerrero, Héctor Astudillo, reported that one person died after a falling pole fell on him in the municipality of Coyuca de Benítez, according to Efe. “I have just been informed that in Coyuca de Benítez a person has died because a pole fell on him,” Astudillo told Milenio TV.

“Fortunately there is no serious damage,” Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador wrote on Twitter.
