A human skull was found in a forest in a mountain area in the municipality of cervinara. It was a mushroom hunter, wandering around the area, who made the macabre discovery and alerted the Carabinieri of the provincial command of Avellino. The search for other human remains began, but despite the area being thoroughly searched, no other bone remains were found.
The skull was transferred to the Moscati hospital in Avellino for forensic medical tests, which the Avellino public prosecutor's office will order in the next few hours. Five attempted scams targeting elderly people were foiled by Carabinieri officers from the Avellino Provincial Command in various towns in the Calore Valley. The calls came to the homes of elderly residents in Venticano, Pietradefusi, and Montefusco. On the other end, a frantic voice described a relative involved in a serious problem, often an accident or an urgent legal matter, and demanded the immediate delivery of cash and valuables to a representative who would shortly arrive at the door.
