Torre Annunziata. He had recently finished serving a sentence under house arrest for drug-related crimes, Francesco Immobile, the 35-year-old criminal killed today in an ambush in Torre Annunziata.

The man was riddled with about ten gunshots near the square in front of the Church of St. Alphonsus de' Liguori, not far from where he lived. He probably had an appointment with someone before returning home for lunch. The church square was a safe place, he thought, but it wasn't.

The investigators – the police officers are investigating the case police stationa – they do not seem to have any doubts about the Camorra origin of the crime: in fact, the incident should be placed in the context of the fight against drug dealing in the Vesuvian city. police is scanning his phone looking for people with whom he had come into contact, even via chat or text message. They were also taken camera images public and private in the area to obtain useful information for the investigation.

In the past, Immobile had been the protagonist of a particular news story: it was February 2018 when, caught by the police and in possession of marijuana and cocaine, he had tried to escape on foot after getting off a motorcycle he was riding but, due to the slippery road surface due to the rain, he slipped and suffered a fracture to his left malleolus.

And now with some leading figures of organised crime back at liberty: after the "stese" and the ambushes, the deaths arrive and Torre Annunziata returns to being Fortapa'sc, the city in the hands of the Camorra described in the film Marco Risi on the killing of the journalist Giancarlo Siani.

The ambush in broad daylight, a stone's throw from the church, could be the response to the wounding that occurred yesterday afternoon. Michael Guarro , a leading exponent of the Gionta clan, hit by two bullets while riding a scooter on Corso Vittorio Emanuele III.

Who went into action today near the square of the Parish of St. Alphonsus de' Liguori he did it to kill: despite the barrage of bullets that hit him in several places, Francesco Immobile was still alive when the first aid arrived. Loaded into a car for a desperate race towards theSan Leonardo hospital in Castellammare di Stabia, Immobile died shortly after due to the serious injuries he suffered.

THE MAYOR OF TORRE ANNUNZIATA CALLS FOR DRASTIC MEASURES

These are episodes that plunge the city into terror, especially if associated with the various cases of "stese" that have occurred in recent weeks in several neighborhoods of the Vesuvian city. ”The release from prison of some prominent figures linked to local organised crime – dice the mayor Vincenzo Ascione – in an already particularly compromised context such as the one Torre Annunziata is experiencing, it is having the nefarious effect of unleashing a war between rival factions for control of the territory. It is a situation that is no longer sustainable, for which it is necessary to take drastic measures, before it can further degenerate”.

The senator of the mixed group raises the stakes Sandro Ruotolo: ”Torre Annunziata is held hostage by clans at war with each other for the control of illicit business. It is a dying city. In broad daylight, people shoot in the streets and everyone is in danger of dying. There is no more time to waste. The situation has been underestimated far too much. We must disarm Torre Annunziata. The State must act as the State. Civil society must make its voice heard. Those who remain indifferent are accomplices of the clans. We have not yet defeated Fortapa'sc”.

Torre Annunziata

"It is good that institutions and law enforcement stop these episodes before a new war breaks out. Too many times blood has stained the history of our city." These are the words of the regional councilor of Europa Verde, Francesco Emilio Borrelli.

"There are moments in the history of the fight against crime, in which new strategies are proposed, or clearer paths of contrast are developed. Today, in Torre Annunziata, is not one of these moments. The Democratic Party believes that the gesture made this morning by the Camorra is a real arrogant challenge to the city and its institutions, to the State and all its bodies, its representatives, its men, to civil society and its people.

While Torre Annunziata was fighting to re-establish legality and security, against serious moments in its administration and dramatic moments in its community, the Camorra launched its challenge and, with gunshots, reaffirmed its desire for power. The PD calls for the harshest response from all the resources of the State, all the city institutions, the people of the city: we cannot wait a minute to demonstrate to these criminal gangs that this territory will not return to the conditions of even a few decades, which it has overcome with sacrifices and hard democratic struggles”, so in a note Paul Mancuso, president of the PD Naples.
