"A pair” by Davide Petrosino won the Vesuvius Award as best work in competition in the section ScreenNaples Short of the Naples Film Festival 2021, directed by Mario Violini in collaboration with Giuseppe Borrone.
The jury of the twenty-second edition, composed of the journalist Antonio Fiore, the filmmaker Maria Di Razza and the director Francesco Prisco, awarded this work “For the ability to outline in a clear and poetic way, with an interesting stylistic rigor, an episode of 'ordinary daily life' such as the end of a love, without ever indulging in formal complacency and exalting the performances of two young interpreters with a sure future”. Two special mentions went to Emma by Andrea Bocchetti and Il solito pranzo by Andrea Valentino.
The one of Gigi Savoy It's the best male performance for the film The hour of the clouds by Mario Sposito. “An actor who has been able to make the precious Eduardian school a springboard towards increasingly refined and convincing performances. Protagonist or supporting actor, Gigi Savoia is proof that on the set or on the stage there is no difference between small roles or leading roles: their greatness is measured only by the quality of the interpreter. And that of Savoia is among the highest", we read in the motivation.
With her extraordinary and powerful performance in an adaptation of “The human voice” by Cocteau, expertly revisited by Giuseppe Bucci, Rosaria De Cicco in “Laura's voice” declines her multifaceted acting skills, emerging with her head held high from the inevitable comparison with those who illustrious preceded her. The changes in pace and mood and the swing of sensations give us a very credible performance, which the jury of the Naples Film Festival decides to award as best female performance.
These were the verdicts during the awards ceremony held in the Sala Dumas of the French Institute in Naples, after five days of screenings of numerous previews and with international guests such as director Stéphane Brizé and Polish maestro Jerzy Skolimowski, as well as actress Sabina Guzzanti.
"We had conceived this as a transitional edition, however the great attention received from the public and the press meant that we had to deal with a more than valid influx of people who came to see the films in the program. It is a great satisfaction to see that the efforts made in a still delicate moment have been repaid by obtaining an interesting result. The driving force is certainly the great quality of the products presented in competition, thanks also to the performances of actors who have given prestige to the tradition of great local interpreters such as the two winners. And then it was a great pleasure to host two great directors such as Brizé and Skolimowski, and to have found Guzzanti, a personality with great humanity, shown to be intrigued by Neapolitan culture and cuisine“, commented Violini.
