Whirlpool confirms that the reasons that led the company to start the collective dismissal procedure for the workers of the plant in mid-July Napoli “they haven't changed” and it says available “to listen to any proposals and to support the workers”.
This was learned while the meeting convened by the Ministry of Labor, in agreement with the Mise and the Campania region, with the company, Invitalia and the unions is underway. The unions are asking to suspend the procedure, which expires at the end of the month, and for the government to set up a concrete project for the production resumption of the site in via Argine.
“If the meeting doesn’t go well, we won’t leave Rome and we won’t stay holed up here at the Mise. Don’t think they can incorporate us and keep us here. We’ll move. We told the prefect of Naples and the Digos of Naples, we also tell the Police Headquarters here, that they interface with Minister Lamorgese. We don’t want a trade union dispute to become a public order dispute”.
The Secretary General of the Fiom Cgil of Naples, Rosario Rappa, speaking through a megaphone to the Whirlpool workers who are protesting in front of the Mise headquarters in Rome.
“Today's meeting – Rappa said – to be useful it must prevent the letters from being sent, because we are not available to wait for them to fire us. The ministry must set a date for us to discuss project B, but we will continue to ask that Whirlpool restart and resume production in Naples”.
“From today's meeting we expect answers on the Sustainable Transport Hub project”, explains the national secretary of Fim Maximilian Nobis. "Almost 5 months have passed since August 2, when the project was illustrated to us. We imagine that in these two months the Mise has produced a draft on the project with times and investments. For this reason, Whirlpool, faced with a concrete proposal from the Ministry, must suspend the dismissal procedure to allow the occupational relocation of the 340 employees of the Naples site", he explains.
