A letter to the Ministers of Labor and Economic Development, Andrea Orlando and Giancarlo Giorgetti, and a phone call to the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Alessandra Todde, to ask for a date available in a short time to discuss the Whirlpool Naples dispute: this is the commitment made by the Prefect of Naples, Marco Valentini, during the meeting with the union representatives of Fim, Fiom and Uilm Naples, convened in the late morning, after the blockade, by the workers of the plant in via Argine, of the A3 Naples-Salerno highway.
" We have welcomed the prefect's attitude ," said Rosario Rappa, general secretary of the Fiom-Cgil Naples union, on the sidelines of the meeting. " He summoned us immediately, once again demonstrating his sensitivity to the workers and his commitment to write to the two ministers to urge a positive resolution to the dispute and expedite all solutions, especially given the limited time available. "We have, however, told the prefect ," Rappa added, " that we will not sit idly by for the 30 days remaining before the expiration of the dismissal procedures initiated by the company. Starting next Monday, September 6th, a delegation of workers will begin a tour of Whirlpool plants across Italy to ask for solidarity in their dispute. The first stop will be in Comunanza, in the province of Ascoli Piceno. If the summons arrives, " concluded Rappa, " depending on the outcome, we will decide whether to hold a demonstration at Palazzo Chigi as well."
