The Court of Reggio Calabria has issued precautionary measures of house arrest against five people, investigated for criminal conspiracy aimed at sports fraud.
The investigation, coordinated by the Reggio Calabria Prosecutor's Office and begun in January 2024, stemmed from a report from the Customs and Monopolies Agency regarding anomalous betting flows on a Primavera match. The checks revealed that a referee from the Reggio Calabria section, already suspended for previous irregularities, was orchestrating a system to rig the results of several Primavera matches. To make the matches converge on the desired outcomes - in particular on the number of goals to ensure "over" predictions - the referee resorted to non-existent penalties, unjustified expulsions and favours to one of the teams.
