Napoli. The first cycling school recognized by the Italian Cycling Federation is born in Naples. The Bike School Naples is managed by the amateur sports association Emmevi with Mario Fontana as technical director who has been operating in the metropolitan area for ten years with experience in various sports disciplines, including triathlon activities.
Housed in the Cercola Sports Center, the Bike School Napoli is aimed at young people aged five to sixteen, both girls and boys, who will be able to train on two fields: the dirt track dedicated to mountain biking activities and the athletics track for street activities. A double opportunity within the same sports facility, a unique opportunity in the entire Campania Region that makes the new school an equipped reality with adequate spaces for training and warm-ups.
Children and adolescents are the protagonists of a multipurpose educational-sports program, having the possibility of also being involved in the discipline of running. The program includes training starting from the basics. Even those who have never been on a bike are welcome: the school guarantees the essential introductory activity for those who do not yet know how to pedal and keep their balance on two wheels. The students, divided into specific groups according to their abilities and age, will work, over the next few months, on specific objectives so as to become the protagonists of the next competitive cycling season.
From the heart of Naples to the Vesuvian Municipalities, the new school welcomes young people from the entire metropolitan area, proposing itself as an important point of reference for children and adolescents who have never approached sports or who want to experiment with new disciplines. Furthermore, Bike School Napoli is particularly sensitive to the needs of young people with special educational needs or with mild forms of disability involved in lessons held by qualified personnel.
A work of inclusion that Mario Fontana has been working on for years, considering sport as a tool for social prevention and an antidote against any form of deviance and violence. Bike School Napoli declines and puts into practice the values of the amateur sports association Emmevi, also involving children and young people who come from delicate contexts or who are protagonists, against their will, of unpleasant economic, social and other situations.
In this sense, the sports reality has activated awareness and promotion initiatives to identify young people to be protagonists of the next sports challenges: for example, the partnership agreements promoted with various schools in the metropolitan area of Naples and with associations that operate in the territory so as to mutually strengthen the activities in favor of disadvantaged people.
"I am happy and proud to have promoted this initiative and at the same time I am aware of the responsibilities that fall to me as a sports director but also and above all, as an educator" says Mario Fontana, founder and technical director of Bike School Napoli, who adds: "I have always been aware of the value of sport as a tool for education and individual growth, I have experienced it over the years of activity. Seeing so much participation gives me a lot of confidence: numbers alone are not enough for me, I want a lot of quality, I want to make a difference. With all the sports collaborators we tend to give life to an experience that can be a regional reference and why not, national".
"The amateur sports association Emmevi has managed to bring cycling back to an area where it was historical," says Umberto Perna, head of youth sector activities for the Campania Committee, who insists: "We will not lack the right support for this worthy project."
