The judges of the Second Court of Appeal of Naples have decided to reopen the trial for the death of the 7-year-old boy beaten to death by his stepfather Tony Essobti, in January 2019.
The man was sentenced to life imprisonment a year later in the first instance. The letter of apology was acquired and delivered to the judges yesterday by his lawyer Pietro Rossi. In terms of omission, for not having intervened in defense of her children, the mother of Giuseppe and two other children, Valentina Casa, was also sentenced to six years in prison. The process of renewing the trial was proposed by the deputy attorney general Anna Grillo and the lawyer Rossi.
The separate trial of this dramatic story will then begin on July 22, 2022, before the Naples North court. In fact, the two teachers and the former principal of the school attended by the murdered child and his 12-year-old sister, injured by Essobti, are accused of failure to report, and, according to the prosecution, despite knowing about the abuse, they never reported it. The defendant is also charged with attempted murder against Giuseppe's little sister.
