The District Anti-Mafia Directorate's major operation, which led to the arrest of 44 people, didn't just uncover crimes and acts of intimidation. It revealed the workings of a Camorra that had learned to speak little and have a strong impact, using more elegant, almost "managerial" methods, without relinquishing—when necessary—the power of control.

A large-scale operation coordinated by the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate has shaken the foundations of Campania's organized crime, leading to the execution of 44 pre-trial detention orders (34 in prison and 10 under house arrest). Naples - Carabinieri from the Castello di Cisterna Investigative Unit have conducted a large-scale anti-mafia operation, culminating in the arrest of 44 people. The order, signed by the Naples preliminary investigations judge at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, orders the detention of 34 suspects and house arrest for another 10. The charges are serious: mafia-style association, extortion, attempted extortion, illegal management of gambling and betting using mafia methods, and—most importantly—mafia-political election-rigging. The investigation, covering the period from 2022 to 2024 and constructed through wiretaps, shadowing, and technical operations, maps a criminal power rooted in the Nola area and capable of infiltrating economic sectors, institutions, and democratic elections.

According to investigators, the Russo clan—historically active in Nola and surrounding municipalities—remained fully operational. The group, capable of directly and indirectly controlling local economic activity, allegedly imposed a system of "taxes" on real estate sales, planning procedures, and even the municipal procedures for construction work. The proceeds were then divided among its members and channeled into a common fund intended to support the families of prisoners. Numerous extortion incidents involving municipal technicians, designers, entrepreneurs, and clients also emerged: pressure to facilitate the acquisition of properties or to allow third parties, chosen by the clan, to build and purchase.
