CasertaYesterday, as part of a territorial control service carried out on their own initiative, aimed at preventing and repressing the phenomenon of forest fires, soldiers from the Investigative Unit of the Environmental, Agri-food and Forestry Police of Caserta, Nipaaf, spotted a column of smoke coming from some lands located in the municipality of Caiazzo (CE) in the area called “Pantaniello”.

Once on site they verified that there was a fire in progress that was affecting agricultural land and the surrounding wooded area, consisting mainly of oak species, managed as coppice.

The presence of the event was immediately reported to the Operations Room of Caserta of the Campania Region in order to activate the extinguishing teams.

The operations to combat the flames were then carried out by the teams that arrived on site with 2 vehicles from the Caserta Fire Brigade and 2 vehicles from the Comunità Montana Monte Maggiore di Formicola, which began operating at 14 pm and concluded operations at 50 pm on the same day.

The timely investigations, which made use of the technical surveys carried out on site, as well as the questioning of witnesses present on site immediately after the event, allowed us to acquire serious evidence against two people who, in complicity with each other, had caused the forest fire through fault, consisting of imprudence, negligence and incompetence, by having set fire to some piles of plant material, consisting of residues from ground cleaning work without implementing any technical precautions to prevent the spread of the flames, which, uncontrolled, had immediately spread to the adjacent wooded area.

Furthermore, the ignition of the piles of plant material occurred during a period of absolute ban on burning forest plants due to the validity of the executive decree no. 237 of 14/06/2021 of the Regional Council of Campania concerning: "Declaration of a state of serious danger for forest fires - year 2021".

From the reconnaissance carried out on the sites, it emerged that the total surface area affected by the fire was approximately 6000 m3000, of private property, of which approximately 3000 mXNUMX of wooded area and XNUMX mXNUMX of agricultural land.

The two perpetrators were then reported at liberty for the crime of negligent forest fire.
