Castellammare. Cutting of the steel for the ship ”Explora II” of MSC Cruises. The ceremony took place this morning at the Fincantieri of Castellammare di Stabia, responsible for building the 4 ships for the new luxury brand of MSC Cruises ”Explora Journeys”.
The order for this class of ships, announced in 2018, has a total value of over 2 billion euros. ”Explora I” is already under construction in Monfalcone, while ”Explora II” will be built in Sestri Ponente, with deliveries scheduled for 2023 and 2024 respectively.
The Castellammare di Stabia shipyard will build a section of the ship. This morning's ceremony was attended, among others, by Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC, Michael Ungerer, CEO of Explora Journeys CEO, and Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of Fincantieri's Merchant Ships Division.
The units will have a gross tonnage of approximately 64 thousand tons and will be equipped with the latest technologies available. With 461 suites, they will be characterized by a highly innovative design, also in terms of comfort and relaxation for passengers.
