Three Italian dancers died in a car accident during a desert excursion near Riyadh.

The three crashed their off-road vehicle into a ditch, along with two Saudis who were accompanying them, during the day off of their trip to the inauguration of a theater.

The victims are 33-year-old Antonio Caggianelli from Bisceglie, 28-year-old Nicolas Esposto from San Giovani Gemini, in the Agrigento area, and 32-year-old Giampiero Giarri from Rome.

Taking advantage of the day off, 10 young Italian dancers had decided to take part in a trip to the desert where they were escorted by local guides. The reasons for the accident in which one of the jeeps ended up in a ravine are unclear.

The bodies of the victims were recovered by helicopter and on Sunday morning the bodies were identified and should be repatriated in the next few days. The deceased dancers were known in the environment.

The Apulian Caggianelli, who was also a choreographer, had participated in the last edition of the Notte della Taranta, and Esposto had made several appearances in dance troupes on TV.

"Antonio Caggianelli was the artist in what we can define as a normal family”, said the mayor of Bisceglie, Angelantonio Angarano, “His parents had always supported him in realizing his dreams and by now Antonio was established at a national level, so much so that he was thinking of moving abroad”.
Antonio, who leaves behind a sister and two brothers in addition to his parents, had spoken about the tour in Saudi Arabia this summer during an event in the Bisceglie dock, during which he performed on a gulet.
