From Caserta, Rita Raucci's short film about gaslighting is a finalist in two Swedish festivals and has obtained nominations in Paris, London, Toronto, Clermont, Glasgow, Budapest, Bologna
The success of “Io vivo per te”, the short film on gaslighting by Rita Raucci, written with Claudio Lombardi and Paolo Mazzarella, directed by Gaetano Ippolito, and produced by Collettivo Paula of Caserta, is becoming a case in the independent cinema scene.
The short is a finalist in two Swedish festivals and has received nominations in Paris, London, Toronto, Clermont, Glasgow, Budapest, Bologna. The protagonists are Raucci herself, in the role of the victim, and Peppe Romano, in that of the gaslighter.
The work was created thanks to the professional volunteering of a working group that lived this experience as an act of civic duty and active citizenship.
Gaslighting is one of the most subtle and least known forms of psychological violence and is considered a serious violation of human rights; it is expressed through an insidious and constant mental manipulation: the victim is induced, with false information and deception, to doubt himself.
“The challenge, perhaps ambitious – says Raucci – to contribute to creating that culture of knowledge, such as to bring the victims out of their unaware imprisonment and to qualify and strengthen the network of help, pushed me, with Lombardi and Mazzarella, to write a screenplay that would tell, with the language of cinema, all the phases of mental abuse generated by Gaslighting”.
'Io vivo per te' bursts into Marco and Giulia's family daily life; the story unfolds in an aseptic, almost metaphysical environment. Theirs, with its ups and downs, seems like a relationship like many others: yet, in her memories, thoughts and silences, the loneliness of a woman torn between the need for love and emotional sharing and the impoverishment of her body and mind, induced by his narcissistic and manipulative rigidity, emerges. The work manages to illuminate the invisible side of mental abuse, in an experiment halfway between video art and a theatrical short.
Caivano – An arrest that brings to light one of the most dramatic pages in Neapolitan news. Yesterday, the Carabinieri snapped handcuffs on Ciro Migliore, a 27-year-old already known to law enforcement, during a drug raid in Caivano's green park. The man, identified as an alleged drug dealer, is the same young transgender man who was the boyfriend of Maria Paola Gaglione, the 16-year-old who died in the accident in September 2020. The tragedy, which shocked the entire community, was caused by the victim's brother, Michael Gaglione. As established in the trial, the man, opposing his sister's relationship, chased the couple on a motorcycle. During the chase, the scooter on which Maria Paola and Ciro Migliore were riding crashed, causing the young woman's death. Michele Gaglione was sentenced to 9 years and 6 months in prison for manslaughter. Yesterday's arrest by the police adds a dark piece to Migliore's story. The military raided his home, finding evidence of what appears to be a well-organized drug dealing ring: among the findings, 10 pre-packaged doses of cocaine and crack, packaging material and a "lmaster book" with initials and numbers, likely the accounts from the illegal sale. €1.675 in cash was also seized, presumably the proceeds of the illicit activity. The September 16th investigation is not the first drug dealing investigation involving Ciro Migliore after the death of his girlfriend; already in February 2021, he was targeted by law enforcement for similar crimes. The arrest closes a tragic cycle, where a family loss is intertwined with stories of deviance and illegality.
