Federico II's Master in Cinematography Awards Mariano Rigillo

It goes to Mariano Rigillo the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' of the Master in Dramaturgy and Cinematography at the University of Naples Federico II.

The award will be presented Saturday October 23 al Tasso Municipal Theatre of Sorrento. The announcement was officially given to the Elisha Theater of Rome on the occasion of the press conference of the Sorrento Peninsula Award.

Rigillo's name was chosen by a technical jury chaired by Pasquale Sabbatino, coordinator of the Master, and composed of Vincenzo Caputo, Anna Masecchia, Matteo Palumbo, Giuseppina Scognamiglio.

The coastal town is once again the stage for major cultural events. The Penisola Sorrentina Award will open the cultural season promoted by the municipal administration, led by Massimo Coppola, a kermesse dedicated to the world of audiovisual and cinema, capable of intercepting cultural experiences from the world of institutions, training, such as the synergy with the Federico II Master.

Theater, cinema, television and dubbing are the fields in which Mariano Rigillo's long career has been built.

After graduating from the National Academy of Dramatic Arts, he made his theatre debut with “Brand” by Henrik Ibsen. He will later be on stage with “Life of Galileo”, “Phaedra”, “Andromache”, “The Clouds”, “The Misanthrope”, “Don Quixote”, “Ferito a morte”, “Questo sera si recita a soggetto”.

Among the films he starred in: “Metti una sera a cena” by Giuseppe Patroni Griffi, “Metello” by Mauro Bolognini, “Il soldato di forventura” by Pasquale Festa Campanile, “Arrivano i bersaglieri” by Luigi Magni, “Il postino” by Michael Radford, “La masseria delle allodole” by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, “Lezioni di volo” by Francesca Archibugi, “To Rome with Love” by Woody Allen. As a voice actor he lent his voice to Ben Gazzara, Harvey Keitel, Peter Finch, Ian Holm and Geoffrey Rush.

On television, he was finally directed by Luigi Magni (“The General”), Stefano Reali (“Ultimo”), Michele Soavi (“Francesco”), Riccardo Donna (“Fogs and Crimes”), Giacomo Campiotti (“Maria di Nazaret”), Ricky Tognazzi (“The Enzo Tortora Case” – “Where We Were We?”), Carlo Carlei (“I Bastardi di Pizzofalcone”). Among his latest successes in chronological order, we remember his participation in the film “Gatta Cenerentola” and “Come un gatto in tangenziale”. In 2021 he plays Meneghino Mezzani in “Dante”, directed by Pupi Avati.

In 2021, the documentary “Mariano Rigillo and his extended ancient Italian theatrical family” was dedicated to him, a portrait of the great actor and director and his 60 years of theatrical successes.
