The world of football mourns the loss of Daniel Leone: the former Catanzaro goalkeeper died a few hours ago at just 28 years old.

The former player lived in Caserta with friends and his partner: he passed away after a long battle that lasted several years. In the past he also managed to meet Acerbi of Lazio, who had also suffered from a similar disease in the past.
Daniel Leone, former goalkeeper of Reggina and Catanzaro, always loved by everyone for his way of facing things with a smile. Even in these 4 years Daniel did not let himself be discouraged and fought until the end with that smile printed on his face, as demonstrated by the recent photos on Instagram. In the end, however, after a brain operation and long cycles of chemotherapy, his heart stopped.

Already in 2014, Daniel, who was a member of Reggina and playing in the Lega Pro championship, after suffering from a severe headache for several days, had been operated on at the Ospedali Riuniti in Reggio Calabria. The terrible diagnosis? A right frontal brain tumor. Operated in October, Leone was subsequently treated in Milan, undergoing chemotherapy cycles and also returning to training with the rest of the group the following January.

However, the disease returned in 2017 and it was Daniel himself, through a post on his social media channels, who reassured all his friends with a photo and a comment before the second surgery: “Let's open our little heads and hope to fix them” he wrote in August 2018, trying to defuse the situation and fearlessly sharing his state of mind with the many people who have always been close to him. That social story accompanied him until his last days.

The last post on Instagram is from August 8, 2021 and portrays him smiling inside a car, in Caserta. That smile that he always carried with him and characterized him throughout his battle. Daniel's conditions had been worsening for days, but he wanted his earthly life to end in the liturgical memory of the Guardian Angels as if to say to all his loved ones: "I will always be there to watch over you".
