Naples. The storm that hit Naples and its province this morning caused, as has happened in other similar situations, problems for public transport.
Metro Line 1 has stopped: “due to technical problems, from 10:20 am onwards, circulation is limited to the partial Piscinola-Dante section”, the Azienda Napoletana Mobilità reports. The Ente Autonomo Volturno, which manages the Circumvesuviana, has announced that the Faito cable car has also suspended its services, “due to adverse weather conditions and until further notice”. The funiculars and regional subways are still operating for now.
Several buses also stopped near the most flooded roads due to the rain, while vehicular transport quickly came to a halt. On social media there are photos of long queues in via Marina and near the motorway junctions.
And in any case, at the moment the reopening times for Metro Line 1 are not known: but the times are expected to be long and in any case not before late morning.
The transport chaos has naturally also generated numerous inconveniences for commuters who should have reached Naples for work and were forced to fall back on their own means of transport. This has in fact caused a traffic bottleneck that has not yet been resolved.
