Naples. The mayor's message is strong. Gaetano Manfredi who will officially take office at Palazzo San Giacomo on Monday. It is as strong as the bishop's, Domenico Battaglia"We will not turn our young people into bosses."

This is the summary of the interview given to the program 'It's us', on air today at 15.15pm on Tv2000, in an episode dedicated to the new wars between organized crime clans. "If we don't create a concrete alternative, ultimately the only hope for young people is to become bosses and establish their existence in crime.", said Gaetano Manfredi.

"Often among these young people- explained the mayor of Naples in the preview of Tv2000, reported by Dire- there is the idea that the only way to exist in society, to assert one's existence and achieve a goal is to follow illegality".

In a city marked by a growing escalation of episodes linked to organised crime and very young victims of clan wars in various neighbourhoods of the city, Mayor Manfredi underlines that "Today we are faced with a choice: whether to return to the path of legality and therefore return to life or face the path of illegality which means choosing death. Today we must choose life, we must choose the future and I say to ourour boys: We will be close to you to build this opportunity".

"The Municipality can do a lot - Mayor Manfredi continues - regarding the issues of inclusion and reducing social gaps, this is a fundamental first step towards reducing the conditions that foster crime and the recruitment of children and young people, who are increasingly involved in organized crime. We must first and foremost offer these young people a path. This is the role of education, schools, and volunteering. This strong partnership between the public and private sectors, between the secular and Catholic worlds, is fundamental.
