“People ask us for responsibility, work, seriousness. This is how we will govern Naples”. Gaetano Manfredi, mayor of Naples, walked through Galleria Umberto to meet citizens and make an initial assessment with journalists after his victory at the polls.

“The first 100 days will be tough. The first thing to do? We need to reopen the Municipality - He says - because it's a bit dusty. We need to restart the municipal machine, which is completely disorganized today. Now let's party less and get to work".

“I was confident of winning in the first round - explains -, but not to receive a statement with these numbers”. Manfredi said he spent the night in his hometown, Nola, but will soon move to Naples. “I have a house here, time to organize ourselves with the family…”.

Gaetano Manfredi did not miss a concession to folklore on his first day as mayor of Naples. Visiting the Galleria Umberto, in the heart of the city, Manfredi received a characteristic bad luck horn as a gift from the shopkeepers.

A moment of hesitation before accepting the gift for Manfredi who yesterday reiterated his idea of a Naples far from stereotypes: “Less folklore – he joked, holding the horn – but in the end we all need a little superstition."

“It's time to work”. After the party in Piazza Municipio in front of what will be his headquarters for the next 5 years, Gaetano Manfredi, elected in the first round as mayor of Naples, with a strong majority that includes Pd (6 councilors), M5s (5 councilors), Europa Verde (1 councilor), Moderati (1 councilor) and Centro Democratico (15 councilor), plus the other lists (for a total of 5 councilors, XNUMX only from the one directly linked to him), has already heard from the big names of the parties that support him and officials of the key ministries for his project on Naples.

“I slept a little longer than usual, but when I woke up I thought I had to work. - He says - I heard from Letta, I heard from all the national leaders. I asked them for a commitment to the city. Even before yesterday I had had contacts with the government to focus on the needs of Naples. We will work full time to provide answers. In parallel to the electoral campaign we worked a lot on the dossiers, and as a former minister I know who I have to talk to”.

However, no contact has been made so far with the outgoing mayor, Luigi de Magistris: “I haven't had a chance to hear it yet but I definitely will”. But the urgency is that of the government team, up to a maximum of 12 assessors as per the norm, and a good female representation “not because of gender, but because women make a great contribution”.

Everyone, reiterates personalities of another profile, “but I can't make any advances because I have to evaluate the availability”. A “technical and political council. We have had a very strong popular mandate and we cannot betray this trust. Now we have to start as soon as possible, but of course there are technical times”.
