Sausages, cotechino, and salami worth €50 were seized by the Agri-Food Protection Command from several Italian cured meat and ham factories. This was part of Operation "Barbecue Due," which monitors quality labels in the livestock sector, where irregularities were found due to the lack of indication of the pork's provenance.

In Ferrara, 333 kg of “Salsiccia Napoli piccante” (spicy Naples sausage), ready for sale, and 160 kg of irregular labels were seized. In Modena, 1.200 packages of “Cotechino cotto” (cooked cotechino), 600 kg; 132 packages of “Cappello del prete cotto” (cooked priest’s hat), 79 kg; 2.784 packages of various cured meats, 3.280 kg.

In addition, 15 thousand labels evoking “Prosciutto di Modena DOP” and 93 kg of Coppa di Testa di Modena and Coppa di Testa Bologna were seized. In Piacenza, 285 kg of processed pork meat were seized (salami spianata, salami Hungarian and salami Milano). Non-conformities were found, for evocations of the denominations of origin, in some pork processing and transformation companies.

In the provinces of: Parma, at a ham factory, slices of generic vacuum-packed raw ham were found, without the distinctive fire mark, sold as "Prosciutto di Parma DOP" and that the purchasing company used in the production of stuffed pasta, falsely reiterating in the ingredients, the use of the protected brand product. 23 slices of raw ham were seized, for a total of 51 kg.

Three people were reported for commercial fraud and counterfeiting of designation of origin of agri-food products. In Pisa, on the company website, salami “cacciatore” was advertised, evoking “Salami italiani alla cacciatora DOP.”. In total, fines amounted to 17.700 euros.
