The Postal Police, on the occasion of World Teachers' Day, celebrated on October 5th and coinciding with Grandparents' Day, has organized workshops on the topic of online safety in elementary schools throughout the country.
The Postal Police Operators will meet over 50 thousand children who will be given the book “Interland: digital adventures – traveling with grandpa to discover the Web”. The volume, dedicated to children and their families to help them deal with web security issues together, published by Gribaudo, was created by the Postal Police in collaboration with Google and will also be distributed free of charge by the Feltrinelli publishing house.
The staff of the Campania Postal and Communications Police Department will meet the children of the following schools:
1st Educational Circle “Don Antonio RIBOLDI” of Acerra (NA);
IC Montecorvino Pugliano Santa Tecla and capital of Pugliano (SA);
IC DD1 – CAVOUR of Marcianise (CE);
IC “Luigi Settembrini” of San Leucio del Sannio (BN);
IC “L.Di Prisco” Associated Section of Paternopoli (AV).
At the center of the debate with Postal Police specialists, intergenerational dialogue on digital issues and mutual help between grandparents and "digital natives" to develop the fundamental skills for living online and online with awareness.
The protagonists of the book are grandfather Agenore and his two grandchildren, Davide and Matilde, who, on the occasion of their grandfather's birthday, make a journey through the "four Kingdoms of Interland", in search of a hidden gift.
During the journey, the protagonists will have to face some challenges - haters, phishing, incidents related to online privacy, etc., the same ones that we all face every day on the Web - with lessons and advice.
The objective of the activities is to teach children, who are increasingly precocious in the use of devices, who during the Covid-19 emergency period have been increasingly exposed alone on the internet and victims of crime, to exploit the communicative potential of the web and online communities without running risks related to cyberbullying, violation of the privacy of others and oneself, uploading inappropriate content, copyright violation and adopting incorrect or dangerous behavior for oneself and others.
Training on the issues of security and responsible use of the internet is a daily commitment of the State Police and the collaboration with the Ministry of Education is absolutely crucial.
A commitment also supported by data on the relationship between very young people and online safety:
the advent of the pandemic has in fact completed the stages of a progression of the spread of the use of new technologies in increasingly early age groups: to fill the very long afternoons closed at home, to compensate for the lack of contact with peers and family members , there are numerous children who have acquired, in just a few months, greater familiarity with the use of tablets and smartphones, at an age when, in the past, the bicycle and the ball were the main sources of attraction.
The youngest children who approach the internet are attracted by online games, they move on social networks but reveal their strong fragility due to inexperience, cognitive and emotional immaturity, and a profound suggestibility which inevitably exposes them to the risk of being victims of cyberbullying and even more so online solicitation.
It turns out that many parents said they were concerned about their children's online safety, with two in four saying they had taken precautions to protect them.
The most popular measures used by parents were restrictions on access to certain websites and the information they post about themselves on their social networks, as well as what their children can share with their online circles of friends.
Furthermore, many Italian parents reported episodes of cybercrime suffered by their children, the most frequent of which were the download of a virus on their PC or on that of the family, responses to phishing emails, episodes of smishing (SMS) and violations of social profiles.
In this context, parents' major concerns concern the fear that their children may give too much information to strangers, the fear that they may be tricked into meeting bad people and that they may suffer bullying or harassment.
Initiatives such as World Teachers' Day, now celebrated all over the world, are of great importance because they help bring Internet safety to the attention of a large number of users, especially adults, who are today in our country the least aware of the importance of educating minors in a safe, aware and responsible use of the web.
Rome – The State Police have conducted a series of searches targeting individuals believed to be involved in the creation and management of the Facebook page "Mia moglie," which was the subject of numerous reports filed last August on the Postal Police website www.commissariatodips.it. The investigation, coordinated by the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office, has led to…
Over 470 Red Code activations in one year. The Postal Police's 2025 report reveals the ferocious face of the web: no longer just scams, but a "social slaughterhouse" where intimacy becomes a commodity for blackmail. Male sexual extortion cases are on the rise, while women remain the preferred target of cyberstalkers. The invisible siege.
The Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, Third Criminal Section, issued a firm sentence against Giuseppe Mesuraca, a 42-year-old native of Crotone. He was sentenced to six months in prison without a suspended sentence. The decision concludes an investigation that uncovered a multi-aggravated fraud involving a financier of…
