Il Capo d'Orlando International Scientific Award returns for the second consecutive year in autumn: Friday October 8 at 18pm, in the historic Giusso Castle, the 23rd edition.
The one to receive the recognition will be Sir Peter Ratcliffe, Nobel Prize in Medicine 2019 for his discoveries in the field of hypoxia, or how cells perceive and adapt to oxygen deficiency. Ratcliffe, professor emeritus of the University of Oxford, is director of the Francis Crick Institute in London, the most innovative biomedical research center in the world. The English scientist will be the 17th Nobel Prize winner to receive the award organized by the Museo Mineralogico Campano – Fondazione Discepolo directed by Dr. Umberto Celentano.
The plaque will be delivered by Prof. Matteo Lorito, rector of the Federico II University of Naples. The other recipients who will receive recognition from the other sections are also of absolute prestige. For the section “Scientific Disclosure” the silver plaque will be collected by Prof. Francesco Vaia, Director of the National Institute for Infectious Diseases “Lazarus Spallanzani” of Rome, among the main protagonists of research in the field of combating the Covid-19 epidemic.
In the section "Multimedia communication"Dr. will be awarded. Louis Proximity, journalist and President of the MAV (Virtual Archaeological Museum) of Ercolano. The award for the “Cultural Management” will be delivered to Dr. Sylvain Bellenger, Director of the Capodimonte Museum in Naples.
For "Science and Industry” recognition to Dr. Carmelo Giuffre, President of Irritec Spa, a Sicilian company that is a world leader in the sector of technological agricultural irrigation and environmental protection. For the section “Science and Food” the prize will be collected by Prof. Elizabeth Moro of the University “Suor Orsola Benincasa” of Naples, Co-Director of the Virtual Museum of the Mediterranean Diet.
The cultural event will be coordinated by the journalist Dr. Antonino Siniscalchi. Among the topics covered during the evening, in addition to the lectio magistralis by Nobel Prize winner Ratcliffe on oxygen homeostasis, there will be strategies for exiting the Covid 19 pandemic, digital communication in the cultural sector, the promotion of the Mediterranean Diet, environmental sustainability in agriculture and the promotion of new initiatives by the Museum and the Real Bosco di Capodimonte.
Access to the event, which benefits from the patronage of the City of Vico Equense, the Campania Region, the Federico II University and Ugis, the Union of Scientific Journalists, will be limited in compliance with the current anti-Covid regulations.
