Sarno. As part of their routine territorial control activities, in recent days, the Finance Police of the Provincial Command of Salerno arrested a local criminal who was discovered to be carrying an explosive device and other dangerous material on board his car.
The Yellow Flames of the Scafati Company were near the city center when, suspicious of the speed of a passing car, they ordered the young man who was driving to stop.
Completely ignoring the invitation to pull over, the twenty-six-year-old immediately accelerated the vehicle, only stopping when the “117” patrols arrived, stopping him just 500 meters ahead.
In carrying out the routine checks, the military thoroughly searched the car, finding, inside the trunk, a red bag containing an explosive device weighing approximately 4 kilograms, approximately twenty pyrotechnic devices, a fuse almost a metre and a half long and a large quantity of gunpowder, for a total weight of 16 kg.
The bomb disposal experts of the Naples Carabinieri Unit promptly arrived on site and examined the goods discovered in the boy's possession, concluding that they were explosive war material (so-called "parabellum"), normally used in intimidating or terrorist acts, with a high detonating and inflammatory power.
At the end of the operations, the substance was therefore seized. The person responsible, already known to the police for previous personal injuries and also a repeat offender for driving without a license, was reported at large to this Public Prosecutor's Office for the crime of "illegal possession of explosives".
The service demonstrates, once again, the commitment guaranteed by the Guardia di Finanza with the aim of safeguarding the safety and public health of citizens.
