The Spanish writer Sergio del Molino arrives in Naples for two meetings promoted by theCervante Institutes. The journalist and writer originally from Madrid, author of the narrative essay “Empty Spain”, will be the protagonist 20 21 and October of two different events dedicated to writing, translation and urban regeneration.
Wednesday October 20 at 17.30:6 pm the first meeting, at the new headquarters of the Instituto Cervantes in Naples (via Chiatamone XNUMXG), aimed at students of the literary translation for publishing course. Del Molino will be in conversation with the Spanish scholar Marco Ottaiano, director of the advanced training course now in its tenth edition and organized in collaboration with the University of Naples L'Orientale.
The second meeting, open to the public, will be held Thursday October 21 at 15.30 pm at the Foqus Foundation (via Portacarrese a Montecalvario, 69). Moderated by the journalist and writer Generoso Picone, this event entitled “The city and the void”, falls within the scope of “Colloquia, about the new city”, first cycle of public meetings on the theme of urban regeneration.
Sergio del Molino will be in conversation with the Italian writer of Arbëreshe ethnicity Carmine Abate, winner of the Campiello Prize and author of numerous stories and novels mainly focused on the themes of migrants and encounters between cultures. “Il cercatore di luce” is the title of his latest novel, published on October 12 by Mondadori.
Born in 1979, Sergio del Molino is a Spanish writer and journalist, a contributor to several newspapers and television programs. Considered one of the most interesting authors of the new generation, he made his debut in 2009 with the collection of short stories “Malas influencias”, followed in 2012 by the novel “No habrá más enemigo”.
The following year he published “La hora violeta”, a delicate and poetic memoir, a great exercise in sincerity in the face of a painful event such as the loss of a child. This is the plot of the novel – published in Italy by Sellerio with the title “Nell'ora violetta” – winner of the Premio Tigre Juan and the Ojo Crítico, considered one of the best books published by new Spanish authors in recent years.
Also for Sellerio, he published “Empty Spain” in 2019, which won the Madrid Booksellers’ Prize and the Cálamo Prize as book of the year. The book was also chosen by the main literary supplements of the Spanish press – Babelia, El Periódico, La Vanguardia and the Spanish edition of The New York Times – as one of the titles of the year.
He is also the author of highly acclaimed novels such as “La mirada de los peces” (2017), “Lo que a nadie le importa” (2014) or “La Piel” (2020) and the essay “Against Empty Spain” (2021).
As a journalist, he was a reporter for the daily newspaper Heraldo de Aragón, a columnist for El País and a contributor to the radio program “Más de uno” on Onda Cero.
