Vesuvio. A boy who was walking his dog today in an area on the slopes of Vesuvius, in the municipality of Ercolano, lost the path, while proceeding down from the crater, and ended up in the brambles.

The boy alerted the rescue services and the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of Campania was activated. The technicians of the CNSAS of Campania began the search and, thanks to the position sent via WhatsApp and following the voice, they identified the man and reached him.

After receiving initial medical attention, the boy and his dog were taken to the asphalt road.

Vesuvius: 26 guides barred from the crater. The protest: "Unable to carry out our work."

by Vincenzo Scarpa February 5, 2026 - 12:31 12:31

Twenty-six volcanological guides certified by the Campania Region report that they are still stuck at roadblocks, unable to carry out their activities on trail number 5 of the Gran Cono del Vesuvio, despite the new regional legislation recognizing their full right to operate. The case was raised by Gennaro Balzano, president of the association "Presidio permanente vulcano campani," who describes the situation as "paradoxical and seriously detrimental not only to the rights of the professionals involved, but above all to the public interest, the safety of visitors, and the overall quality of tourist services offered in one of Europe's most important natural sites."

The issue has its roots in the reform approved by the Campania Region last July, which overturned the old limited-access system in place for nearly thirty years. "Almost thirty years after the last competition," Balzano explains, "the Campania Region has approved the resolution expanding the number of volcanological guides operating at the permanent Vesuvius facility, in response to growing tourist traffic and increased safety requirements." This measure was supposed to open the doors to new guides, but in reality, according to the association, has yet to have any concrete effects on the ground.

A day among Roman streets, frescoed houses, and unique artifacts, without paying an admission fee. On Sunday, February 1st, the Herculaneum Archaeological Park is participating in "domenicalmuseo," the Ministry of Culture's initiative that opens state museums and archaeological parks to the public free of charge every first Sunday of the month.

For an entire day, visitors and tourists will be able to freely enter the ancient city buried by the eruption of Vesuvius, strolling along the cardini and decumani and discovering some of the site's iconic sites. These include the Boat Pavilion, which illustrates the close relationship between Herculaneum and the sea through boats and relics of maritime life, and the Antiquarium, which houses extraordinary everyday objects, such as the famous charred wood and the exquisite Herculaneum Gold.

Ercolano – What was supposed to be a quiet evening turned into a nightmare for two young people, a 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, who were surprised by robbers in the middle of the night while they were parked near the Vesuvius Observatory. The attack occurred around 1:00 AM, when the couple…
