In the midst of the second wave of Covid, they allegedly hosted twelve elderly women, some of whom were unable to walk, in their unauthorized RSA, without taking precautions against the spread of the infection. Five of these patients later died from the Coronavirus.
For this reason, two women aged 90 and 62 were reached in Torre Annunziata (Naples) by an order of temporary prohibition to carry out assistance activities for vulnerable people issued by the investigating judge of the Torre Annunziata court.
The two women are accused of abandonment of disabled or incapacitated persons, multiple manslaughter and violation of health laws regarding the operation of a health facility of the RSA type. The Prosecutor's Office had instead requested house arrest for both suspects.
The investigation activities began after the deaths that occurred between October 25 and November 11, 2020 in the family home "Maria Immacolata San Vincenzo dei Paoli" in Torre Annunziata.
In particular, on November 10 of last year the intervention of the Carabinieri was requested by the relatives of one of the victims, and the investigations revealed that the facility, managed by a ninety-year-old woman in her capacity as president of a non-profit association, and in fact directed by a sixty-two-year-old woman, did not have the authorization to function as an RSA and had not adopted any preventive measures to protect guests from the risk of contagion.
During the peak of the virus, the nursing home did not use personal protective equipment, nor did it adopt protocols aimed at ensuring the sanitization of the rooms and the prohibition of access to outsiders, so much so that even masses continued in a small chapel, which was open to everyone. Furthermore, the healthcare offered to the guests was also found to be lacking due to the lack of specialized medical personnel.
