A growing sector

There are many changes that are affecting the art sector, at least since the beginning of the 21st century. These do not only concern the nature of artistic products (think of how today the term "art" is used to indicate something much more comprehensive than it once was), but also the spaces for use of the same. Today we no longer find works of art only in museums, but also on the street, in public buildings, in the homes of enthusiasts... In recent years, art has become a much more accessible universe, precisely because the traditional museum no longer represents the privileged channel for coming into contact with artistic products. If once the presence of art in public places more often had the function of qualifying an established power or creating a symbol, today in the same spaces art is no longer used to celebrate, but to establish a new and direct connection with reality and with those who live in those places. The same happens for smaller spaces, such as those of a private home: the world of interior design investigates with ever greater attention the best ways to give environments an artistic touch, as we will see shortly. In short, new spaces dedicated to artistic creation and expression are recently being born, often present in our daily lives.

Let's see what these new spaces are and what innovations they introduce in the way we think about the concept of art.

New artists and new spaces

It is increasingly common for urban redevelopment projects to involve not only engineers or architects, but also artists. In recent times, many cities have promoted projects to redevelop spaces from an artistic perspective. To cite just one example, one can think of the now ten-yearly appointment with the public art project “A Cielo Aperto” in the small Lucanian village of Latronico, an event that is renewed every summer thanks to the involvement of citizens and sees various permanent works interacting with the mountain environment. Not only large cities, therefore, but also small municipalities are often active in this type of initiative. And we could also say: not only large public spaces, but also small corners of our daily life are today more frequently interested in the presence of art. Among the many professions that are emerging in recent years, in fact, some have to do with the increasingly complex and stimulating relationship between art and interior design. Before analyzing this aspect, let's briefly see what the status of art is today and what the major contemporary artistic trends are.

Art as the production of an imaginary

Contemporary art is often spoken of with a veiled polemical tone, due to the expansion of the very concept of artistic creation, which today encompasses many products that, with a bit of snobbery, are often defined as banal or simple to produce: not "true art", in short. Whether we like it or not, things are like this today: art has a hybrid statute, increasingly influenced by other mass media such as television, music and, today more than ever, social media. In other words, art must keep up with the times: the artist does not create for himself, but increasingly creates works set in a very specific context with the intention of contributing to the production of an imaginary.

Artistic trends today

Having clarified this, it remains to define what are the most widespread artistic trends in panorama contemporary. Let's start by saying that, in today's world, it is almost impossible to speak of real currents, unlike in the past. What is certain is that the freshness and freedom that characterize contemporary artistic production collectlgono the legacy of those who, in the past, have cleared the way for a art model that uses thethe collective imagination to draw objects of artistic inspiration. The pop art of the fifties comes to mind (who doesn't know the works of Andy Warhol?), in which the consumerist world entered forcefully into the works of the artists of the time: everything that was already present and well rooted in the minds of the users of the works was transformed into art. Are we witnessing the birth of a new pop spirit? It is possible, given the large number of artists who are carving out a space for themselves in modernity through new and highly communicative creations, idesigned not so much for traditional exhibition in museum institutions, but for enjoyment in welcoming spaces e familiar as the same house.

Art at home: an idea that pleases

Times change, tastes change, even our homes change. In an era marked by the pandemic, the need for perceive the house as a mirror of one's personality it was particularly felt by many people. It is also thanks to these needs that art makes its entrance not only into the homes of collectors, but also into those of those who simply want to let a work of art express the character of a house and its inhabitants. As already mentioned, new professions are emerging that deal with this aspect, demonstrating the ever-increasing space that artistic products are conquering not only in public environments, but also in private ones. Below is some advice su How to add a work of art to your home in an effective and harmonious way.

How to insert a work of art into your home

To talk about this topic, one cannot fail to mention Giulia Grillo, one of the few professional figures specialized in interior design and works of art in interior architecture. His studies tell us that an object that decorates our home can generate, at an unconscious level, sensations that contribute to our general psychological well-beingFurnishing a home, choosing the furniture and objects that fill it, is not a simple question of aesthetic pleasure: an environment that responds to our personality is able to make us really feel better. But how do you choose the work of art to put in your home? First of all, you need to evaluate the style of your home.

Aclassic and modern locations

A classic apartment, with neutral tones and colors, can be enhanced with a painting that does not capture attention but gives a contribution. silent acreating a comfortable environment. Yes then to paintings and prints with soft contours and delicate subjects, works that portray landscape environments are always welcome. And what about when a house has a more modern character? In this case, you must first of all be more careful in its placement, placing the work in a highly visible spot where theimpact is within sight (better to avoid areas where the furniture is too bulky). And then you can give free rein to the imagination: practically every object (and even every subject) can become the protagonist dei contemporary pop art paintings (even a very subject classic as a dog that some artists have portrayed according to the canons of pop art), which are among the most popular and widespread today. The important thing is to understand that our perception of a safe place comes from many factors, and one of these is the quality of the objects that enrich our space.
