No wallet-style pizzas, “cuoppi”, spritz and anything that could cause gatherings and spread the virus: starting today, this is established by the new ordinance of the Campania president Vincenzo De Luca.

Scattered checks throughout the territory therefore, with particular attention to recognized meeting places: risk of fines from 400 to 1000 euros.

Fixed police stations are planned at the 31 entrances to the island of Chiaia to report gatherings, patrols around the squares and alleys to prevent the consumption of food and drinks while standing or walking. Also keep a close eye on the tables on the seafront, those placed by the pizzerias along via Partenope.

However, the issue of controls remains, given the difficulties of ensuring compliance with the new rules to combat the spread of the virus.

Two opposing fronts, according to what Il Mattino has reconstructed in these hours: on one side the shopkeepers, who do not want to act as a lightning rod, who do not want to pay for improper behavior outside their premises; on the other, the difficulty of ensuring controls in the face of thousands of people coming and going.

No takeaway, no standing drinks, in a scenario that potentially extends to any street near bars and accommodation establishments.

The prefect explains to the morning Claudius Palomba: I hope the rules will be respected by the vast majority of citizens. There will be joint enforcement as planned by the Public Order Committee, but we also rely on citizens' sense of responsibility. It's best to respect the rules to avoid more serious consequences at the beginning of next year.".

But it's "difficult, if not impossible, to ensure compliance with the ordinances", comment the leaders of some law enforcement unions, as each officer would have hundreds and hundreds of people in front of him. Furthermore, the difficulty of following the movements of so many people at the same time in tight spaces is clearly evident.

Someone explains the difficulty in monitoring compliance with the rules expected starting this morning: "It will be possible to consume at a bar counter or at tables, but takeout or standing order will be prohibited. This involves targeting someone who, with receipt in hand, moves from the register to the counter, and then leaves the establishment where, theoretically, they could have found a table outside."

It will be up to the Neapolitan police chief Alexander Julian the arduous task of coordinating the deployment of men and resources, on the front line - as in other moments of the long Covid season - the municipal officers led by the commander Cyrus Esposito.
