Tunisia Waste Repatriation, Legambiente: “Yet another demonstration of failed regional management”

“We are faced with a sad and shadowy story that stinks of corruption more than the waste itself. With the return of containers to Campania, yet another page is written in the chapter on the waste cycle, which has always been in emergency, and which, more than a cycle, becomes, every day, a dark labyrinth.

Behind that waste coming from Tunisia are hidden carelessness, opacity and responsibility of those who should have checked. Checks that cannot and must not be missing in analyzing that waste present in the containers. We would not like to find ourselves faced with surprises whose effects or rather the damages present the bill later.

We ask the Regional Government, beyond words, a concrete commitment to respect the times in the operations necessary for the characterization, disposal and transfer of that waste: enough with the "indefinite time" that has caused so much damage so far. Enough with the patch policy.

An appeal also to local communities to "make territorial pacts" to close the waste cycle on the territory by leaving local egoisms and governing the creation of circular economy districts. One thing we are convinced: once again, the citizens, the communities, are paying for the inefficiencies.

There are many, too many, territories in our region that “have already given” in terms of waste, between deposits of eco-bales that are still around and extraordinary reopenings of landfills to deal with emergencies. Territories that are waiting for effective remediation.
