Torre del Greco, nurse attacked. Nursing Up: "Local health authorities must ensure safety." Antonio De Palma comments on the attack in the emergency room at Maresca Hospital in Torre del Greco.
"Martina is one of us, she could be our daughter, our sister. Martina is only 27 years old, she loves her job, you can tell from the first words she used to express her pain and fear. But above all, she has proudly worn the nurse's uniform for years, and for years, not without difficulty, she has been on the front lines in what has always been the nerve center of every hospital, the most important department, the one that represents the first point of contact for every patient with the healthcare staff."
With these words, Antonio De Palma, president of the Nursing Up union, commented on the attack on a young nurse in the emergency room of the Maresca hospital in Torre del Greco (Naples), which occurred last Monday evening. Three women and a man were attacking them, demanding that one of their relatives be treated first despite her having a green code.

Kicks and punches - continues the trade unionist - Moments of endless violence, which could have led to the worst for a girl, for a nurse, who now, in addition to the physical consequences, will have to fight for a long time, as happens to many health workers, with the traumatic psychological 'scars' of what happened.
Campania, as explained by Nursing Up, remains among the regions that record the highest number of episodes of violence: over 60 official ones alone reported in 2021: "Women, especially our nurses, are the sacrificial victims, with 78% of physical and psychological assaults concentrated on female staff."
Antonio De Palma underlines how "Healthcare organizations have a duty to ensure the safety and psychological and physical well-being of their employees while performing their institutional duties. This is provided for by the Civil Code, and anyone who suffers harm has the sacrosanct right to legal action."
