A3 Naples-Pompei-Salerno motorway: management transferred to new concessionaire

With the signing of the Minutes of Takeover at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, from today, 1 April 2022, the management of the'A3 motorway Naples-Pompei-Salerno is transferred to the company “Salerno Pompei Napoli SpA”

The new concessionaire was identified through a tender procedure initiated following the expiry of the previous concession agreement, which continued over time due to multiple legal appeals initiated by the competitors.

The concessionaire has undertaken to continue the motorway service without interruption, confirming the existing contractual relationships including those relating to the personnel in service, which will therefore not undergo any changes.

The transfer of the motorway to the new operator confirms the Ministry's orientation to operate tender procedures upon the expiry of concessions, in compliance with the competition rules established by national and EU legislation.

The new Agreement provides for a duration of 25 years, the realization of new investments for 389,2 million euros, an average annual tariff adjustment of 1,41%, the recognition of a remuneration equal to 6,56% in line with the indications of the Transport Regulation Authority. A compensation to the State is foreseen in the total amount of 70 million euros to be paid by the concessionaire not passed on in the tariff.

The investment program includes the adaptation of motorway viaducts, the progressive replacement of initial barriers and the modernization of the systems.

On the motorway section, all the initiatives launched with the Ministry aimed at verifying and monitoring the infrastructure will continue. The execution of the planned interventions will guarantee the territory an even more modern motorway that meets the mobility needs of the territory.
