Naples, historic Girolamini library released. Sealed 10 years ago for investigation into the theft of thousands of volumes.
The historic Girolamini library in via Duomo, Naples, which was sealed ten years ago, in April 2012, as part of an investigation into the theft of thousands of ancient volumes reported by the director at the time, Marino Massimo De Caro, has been released from seizure by the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Also frequented by Giambattista Vico, the library has been open since 1586. It is part of the monumental complex of the Girolamini and housed 160 thousand volumes including thousands of editions dating back to 1500. It is one of the most specialized libraries in texts of Christian Theology and Philosophy.
The release of the seizure is probably linked to a press conference called for tomorrow at the Girolamini monumental complex, which will be attended, among others, by the Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini, and Giovanni Melillo, the new national anti-mafia and anti-terrorism prosecutor and, as prosecutor of Naples, one of the investigators who dealt with the affair.
Also present at the meeting with journalists were Salvatore Nastasi, secretary general of the MiC, Paola Passarelli, director general of Libraries and copyright and Antonella Cucciniello, director of the Library and the monumental complex of the Girolamini.
