For several months now, many savers have been having difficulty obtaining the correct reimbursement of some postal savings bonds in their possession due to the fact that when the securities are taken to the post office for collection they are told that the right to reimbursement has now expired.
But what is true? Does the consumer really no longer have the right to get a single euro for those vouchers?
According to the Financial Banking Arbitrator (the body responsible for resolving disputes between consumers/savers and intermediaries), the holder of the voucher is still entitled to obtain compensation for the damage suffered.
Codacons: "The issue addressed in recent weeks and months is very complex and concerns the fact that many consumers have not been correctly informed of the securities in their possession with the effect that many have lost thousands of euros of investments made. But not all is lost - says Marco Donzelli, National President of Codacons - in fact, for some months now the Arbitrators have held that the intermediary must be sentenced to compensate the consumer for the damage suffered, due to the failure to deliver the Analytical Information Sheet in which the value of the investment made was indicated!
