The judiciary has opened an investigation into the death of the prisoner which occurred today in the hospital in SalernoThis was announced by the guarantor of prisoners in Campania Samuele Ciambriello.
"I am grateful to the judiciary, which immediately sent the prosecutor to verify how things went," says Ciambriello, who adds: "certainly the autopsy will clarify the causes of the young man's death. I am also grateful to the director of the prison for having immediately made the images from the cameras available to the magistrate.
The confirmation of the statements of the other inmates of the same section, the images and the autopsy will certainly clarify how and why Vittorio died”. The management of the Salerno penitentiary institute of Fuorni, the guarantor of the inmates also informs, “promptly informed the relatives of the inmate and his lawyer”.
According to information acquired by the guarantor of the prisoners of Campania Samuele Ciambiello, Vittorio (this is the first name of the deceased prisoner) was born on November 4, 1986, in Aversa, in the province of Caserta. "Today," he says, "I was told by the prison, he had a fight with a couple of officers who had entered his cell to take some material from a companion of his who had chosen another location.
The prisoner had a hostile and violent attitude towards them. During the fight he felt ill. I understand, then, from other information, the prison infirmary intervened with a defibrillator but due to the seriousness of the conditions found they requested the intervention of 118”.
“Vittorio, who would have been released in October 2022,” says the guarantor of Campania’s prisoners, “was admitted a couple of times to the psychiatric unit of Fuorni prison but was then discharged and today’s episode occurred in an ordinary section, the sixth, in a cell he shared with another prisoner.”
"The issue of mentally ill prisoners - comments Ciambriello - raised by several prison police associations is correct: there are many prisoners with mental suffering in the prisons of Campania. There are free places in the psychiatric unit of Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi, in the Avellino area, but unused.
There is little psychiatric assistance (rehabilitation technicians and psychologists), there are no free places in the two residences for the execution of security measures (Rems) of Campania in San Nicola Baronia and Calvi Risorta, respectively in the provinces of Avellino and Caserta”. “The Regional Council of Campania did well – concluded Samuele Ciambriello – to approve, last May 3, a motion with which it invites the Regional Council to establish another Rems in Campania with 20 places”.
