Minister Franceschini: “The Girolamini family's story is one of redemption and justice that begins with the painful episode of the theft of the books and that today, with the release and the precious work carried out by all the institutions involved, allows us to write a new future for one of the most beautiful places in Italy and, therefore, in the world”.
Thus the Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini, in Naples during the visit to the Girolamini library (1586) together with the Mayor, Gaetano Manfredi; the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor, Giovanni Melillo; the General Secretary of the MIC, Salvatore Nastasi; the General Director of Libraries and Copyright, Paola Passarelli and the General Director of Museums, Massimo Osanna.
“The recovery of this jewel of cultural heritage has been under the eyes of all those who care about the protection of cultural heritage. I strongly believe in the role of libraries as living places, where memory is preserved and exposed to the many scholars and travelers who want to admire it.
For this reason, the MiC has allocated significant resources, equal to 20 million euros, for the recovery and safety of this monumental complex that the museum reform has made autonomous. The work will continue, to allow greater opening and usability not only of the library but also of the musical archive, the Church and the picture gallery“, concluded the minister.
