Naples, Mattarella and Tebboune visit Capodimonte together. The two presidents arrived by train and had lunch at Villa Rosebery.
Visit to the Capodimonte Museum in Naples for the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella and the Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The two heads of state will admire the works of the exhibition "Beyond Caravaggio" hosted in the halls of the former Bourbon royal palace. Mattarella returns to Capodimonte after about two years.
The president, in April 2019, had already visited Capodimonte and the exhibition “Caravaggio in Naples” in the company of his daughter Laura and the president of the Chamber, Roberto Fico. The two presidents were welcomed by the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, and the director of the museum Sylvain Bellenger. The two presidents, on an official visit, arrived in Naples from Rome by train and had lunch at Villa Rosebery, the presidential residence in Posillipo.
At the end of the visit, Mattarella and Tebboune will say goodbye at the Capodichino military airport. Afterwards, Mattarella will go by helicopter to Nusco where he will attend the funeral of the former Prime Minister, Ciriaco De Mita.
“The state visit that Naples is hosting with President Mattarella and the Algerian President is a great signal for the city because it testifies to the role of Naples as a great capital of the Mediterranean, a place of meeting and dialogue in one of its most beautiful sites, the Royal Palace of Capodimonte”. This was stated by the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, on the sidelines of the state visit to Italy of the Algerian President, who today planned a visit to the Capodimonte Museum in Naples.
“It is a significant moment for the city which is truly experiencing a new spring,” he added. Two porcelain vases, made by the Real Fabbrica di Capodimonte, donated to the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and to the President of the Algerian Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and a desire: to exhibit some works from the Capodimonte Museum of Naples in Algeria.
The director of the Museum, Sylvain Bellenger, speaks of the great enthusiasm expressed by the heads of state on the occasion of their presence at the Museum during the visit of the President of the Algerian Republic to Italy. Surprised by the immensity of the Museum and the Park, Mattarella defined Capodimonte as one of the most important museum sites in the country.
“The Algerian President was very impressed by the importance of the collection and its cosmopolitan character – Bellenger said at the end of the visit – hence the proposal to hold an exhibition in Algiers”. “Minister Di Maio was also impressed by the visit – reported Bellenger – he asked me for a meeting soon, he was struck by how Capodimonte has changed in recent years".
