The 2022 Cimitile Award is underway between history and current events. Corsi: "It is an award"constantly in the history and current events of our country".
“It is the ability to update itself that keeps alive an award that continues to receive messages and in turn to give them.” This is how Ermanno Corsi, president of the scientific committee of the Cimitile Prize, explains the longevity of the award, this year in its 27th edition.
This is an award, explained the former president of the Order of Journalists of Campania, which is “constantly in the history and current events of our country”.
A clarification, this last one, that is better understood by looking at the list of books awarded in this 2022 edition: from “Il Corrotto. Una storia di brigenti negli anni di mani pulite” which marks the literary debut of Corrado Pinosio to “Pandemonio. Quello che è successo, quello che non deve essere succedere più” by Walter Ricciardi, from “Giustizia ultimo atto.
From “Tangentopoli to the collapse of the judiciary” by Carlo Nordio to “The Afghan princess and the garden of young rebels” by Tiziana Ferrario. But the “history-current events” combination of the Cimitile Prize can be found not only in the books but also in the common thread of this 27th edition: water for the protection of the planet. Presented this morning in Naples, in the Sala Giunta of Palazzo Santa Lucia, seat of the Campania Region, the Cimitile Prize will kick off in the early Christian Basilicas of Cimitile, a small village of seven thousand inhabitants in the province of Naples, from 11 to 18 June.
“We will open the event with an exhibition on water and the presentation of the book by Professor Giulio Boccaletti, “Acqua. Una biografia”, one of the world’s leading experts on environmental safety”, specifies the president of the Fondazione Premio Cimitile, Felice Napolitano.
The exhibition, which the president refers to, is entitled “In Search of the Form of Water. Contemporary Artists for the Protection of the Planet”, curated by Giuseppe Bacci, and will open the literary review with the conference “The Water Effect. Reflections for Sustainable Use and Protection of the Environment”.
“Today the Foundation – Napolitano underlines – It is one of the few examples in Campania that includes a mix of public and private bodies and associations and, proudly, thanks to our cultural path since 2009 we have become part of the regional register of institutes of high culture and, in recent years, the greatest Italian writers, personalities of journalism, politics and entertainment have come to Cimitile and received the traditional silver bell tower emblem of the martyr sanctuary of San Felice”.
The Foundation, which counts among its founders the Campania Region, the Metropolitan City of Naples, the Municipality of Cimitile and the Obiettivo Terzo Millennio association, through the Cimitile Award is also an extraordinary promotional vehicle for one of the most fascinating sites of early Christian art in Italy, that of the Early Christian Basilica Complex.
For this territory of Nola, still outside of mass tourism proposals, the Foundation is also an instrument for safeguarding the artistic and monumental heritage.
With the Municipal Administration of Cimitile, the Archaeological Superintendency for the metropolitan area of Naples and the Episcopal Curia of Nola, it financed, between 2020 and 2021, restoration interventions that involved the sixteenth-century frescoes of the chapel of Santa Maria della Sanità and San Sebastiano in the western presbytery of the basilica of San Felice “in the belief – Napolitano again – cthat the preservation of the basilica complex of Cimitile is everyone's duty. The Foundation intends to invest in the restoration of the frescoes of the right nave of the basilica of San Felice and the chapel of San Calionio, reserving the possibility in the future to exempt the intervention to the sculptural elements, mosaics, ceramics and coins".
