Naples. “It is already foreseen today that in the preparatory pact for the citizen's income there will be the obligation to send children to school.
If further tools are needed to strengthen this element, I agree, I find it reasonable. Not only that. We are discussing with the Ministry of Education to also work on adult education, because one of the problems that emerges from the mapping of recipients is also that of a very low level of education, we are talking about 7-8% who do not have the fifth grade”.
The Minister of Labour Andrea Orlando said this at Napoli, commenting on the hypothesis – advanced in the provincial committee for public order – of cutting the citizen's income for parents who do not send their children to school.
Orlando also commented on the protests of some entrepreneurs in Campania, including bars and restaurants, over the lack of staff to hire, a phenomenon attributed to the citizen's income.
"On the intersection between supply and demand - he said - I see an overestimation of the impact that the citizen's income can have. It was right to introduce rules that allow two calls to be made to the employment centers, after which the benefit is forfeited, but I also think that the trend of the demographic curve is greatly underestimated, the fact that many young people go to other countries and the level of salaries. If we put all these things on the table, perhaps we could have a serious discussion".
The public debate on the birth of a minimum wage in Italy "it is an important issue that must be addressed starting from an agreement between the social parties. If this does not happen, the word will pass to Parliament". The minister added:
“The proposal I put forward – he said – is to use as the minimum wage for each sector the contracts that are comparatively more representative of that sector. I found the union world to be in agreement and still some perplexity on the part of Confindustria, but not of all the employers. I hope that by working on this scheme, integrating it, we can also eventually find the way”.
