In San Leucio the inauguration of the statue dedicated to Ferdinand IV, made of bronze and over 2 meters high
On Sunday 29 May, at 12 noon, in the traffic island of the access junction to San Leucio, on Viale degli Antichi Platani, the sculpture dedicated to King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, created by Maestro Battista Marello, will be inaugurated.
The small ceremony for the installation of the artistic work, made of bronze, 2,20 meters high and weighing about 500 kilograms, with the mayor Carlo Marino and Don Battista Marello, will be attended by the councilor for Culture Enzo Battarra and the delegated councilor of the area Donato Tenga.
“It will be Ferdinand IV of Bourbon – explains the mayor Marino presenting the event – to greet the arrival of tourists at the Borgo di San Leucio and its wonderful Belvedere. And there could not have been a better hand to shape the forms and features of the king who dreamed of the Leucian utopia: Don Battista Marello, the Master priest-sculptor, as they like to call him in the city.
Don Battista was able to depict the sovereign with all the iconic symbols that tell the story of the ancient silk colony, from the silk cloak that wraps him to the Leucian Code of Laws that he holds in one hand, up to the beam, a fundamental part of the loom, in the other hand.
With the back of the statue that is a tribute to our monumental complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a project that we started in recent years and that ends today, a gift to the citizens of the Borgata di San Leucio, a tribute to the capital city and its history, a dutiful symbol of welcome for the visitor arriving towards Piazza della Seta”.
