“Sogno di volare”, the theatre project for the youth of the area, the first ever production of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, becomes reality.
On May 27,28, 29 and XNUMX, the students of some local schools – Istituto Liceale Pascal of Pompei and Istituto tecnico Pantaleo of Torre del Greco – selected on a voluntary basis last September as part of the project “Sogno di volare”, will perform the comedy “The Birds” by Aristophanes at the Teatro Grande of Pompei, directed by Marco Martinelli, with music by Ambrogio Sparagna and lighting design by Vincent Longuemare, internationally renowned professionals of the theatre scene.
This is the first theatrical production of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, created in collaboration with Ravenna Festival, Teatro delle Albe/Ravenna, Teatro di Napoli-Teatro Nazionale and Giffoni Film Festival.
The project is part of a memorandum of understanding signed, in implementation of the Strategic Plan, last April between the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, the Great Pompeii Project/Great Pompeii Unit and the Regional School Office of Campania - aimed at involving local schools and establishing a concrete link between the ancient testimonies and the young users, in a path aimed at understanding and valorising the historical-archaeological heritage.
The opera “The Birds” performed in 414 BC by Aristophanes, is today considered a work of escapism and fantasy, due to the presence of talking birds that accentuate the fairytale tone of the story. In reality, it reveals the background of democratic Athens and the “colonising” ideology of the time.
